High flying adventure and Rocky Horror McPicture Show?

Our office moved in June. The drive is a bit longer for me but sometimes it is definitely more interesting than it used to be. The balloon one is from last week. I see them all the time but since I was trying a different way to the office I was close enough to get a picture of one of them. At one point I swear there were 15 to 20 of them in the sky. The other is from the way home today. I think the title and picture speak to themselves. I only wish I had my camera handy last month when a local movie theater had the movie Babul on the marquee.

Happy New Year

Charissa started a New Year's Day meme. I have decided to play along.
2006 Accomplishments
1. Started a New Year's Day tradition. Now that Aubs can sit through a movie we have gone the last two years. (May not be life changing but I am excited to start our own traditions)
2. Wrote a CE for case managers and adjusters and have gave the presentation. This is huge for me because public speaking gives me fits.
3. Continued raising a child who has a love of music, books, and dancing. She has incredible faith and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She is gracious, kind, and loving.
4. Knitted 3 baby blankets, 2 scarves, and one sweater vest.
5. Paid off the car.

2007 Goals
1. Lead a more active lifestyle as a family.
2. Embrace being thirty. (I actually set this goal on my 29th birthday) My life may not have taken the path I once envisioned but the one I have now is better than any I could have imagined. One of the ways I will do this is to celebrate in Vegas. If anyone wants to come play let me know!!!
3. To pay cash.
4. To survive Aubrey's first day of school. Florida has a pre-K program and she will start at the elementary school in August.
5. Continue the blog. It has allowed me to reconnect with old friends and for my family to keep up with the Barrieaus.

Wishing a happy and healthy New Year to all.

Back to work.

After a lovely five day weekend I headed back to work. Shawn and Aubs are still on Vacation so they stayed home today. A day of rest was needed by both. I am posting the promised ICE pictures among others. The one in front of the tree is a family tradition. Every year at Uncle Bill's house we take a picture with the tree. This year Shawn wanted to match the girls so I embarked on a hunt for matching shirts. Luckily Old Navy must have gotten wind of the quest that would be chosen for me and had the perfect shirts. Three Old Navy's later and the Barrieau Family matched on Christmas. To all I haven't spoken with I hope you had a Merry Christmas.

Abridged Holiday Cheer

This has been the busiest December I can think of. I had gotten an early start and really seemed to be ahead of the game. Then cold and flu season hit the Barrieau House, a death in the family, and now it is just a couple days before Christmas and we are behind. With all that has happened it makes I have made it my mission to get back the last two weekends of Holiday preparation and squeeze it into 5 days. Here is what has been accomplished since Wednesday Night
Wednesday: Last minute trip to Target for stocking stuffers and stamping all the Christmas Cards.

Thursday: Quick shopping trip at lunch to get Shawn's final gift, stop at Wal-Mart after work for other items, Tree decorating, Picking a picture for the cards, Making a sample card deciding I don't like it and starting all over. Baking and decorating a cake for Aubrey's Christmas party (this one did not fall on the floor) Printing all the pictures for now revamped cards.

Friday: Shawn took Aubs to day care for her party while I slept in. When he got home we went out to lunch, and finished our last few gifts. While he drove I knitted a gift, we picked Aubs up early and came home. We put on warm clothes and found all the mittens. Aubrey and Shawn napped while I did my hair and stamped more cards. We left and went to Ice. I will post some pictures in a bit. The Gaylord Palms chills one of the convention areas to 9 degrees. It is filled with Ice sculptures. There is a house you can walk through, Ice slides, and all sorts of other things. We went with Carly and Robb, it was tons of fun. We went out to dinner and then came home. Once we got home I stamped and embossed the rest of the cards, cut the pictures, and assembled the cards until I ran out of tape runner.

Today: (more of a to do) Clean the house, Wrap gifts, Have a holiday dinner with the Cowans, pick up Christmas pictures, finish the cards, wrap more gifts, start the assembly of another gift, fall into bed exhausted.

Tomorrow: More wrapping, visit with Grampy, go to Bill's early and be chef's helper, come home and make sure everything is ready for Santa. Fall into bed exhausted.

Poppy

We will miss you Poppy. Thank you for welcoming me with such open arms. I cannot think of you without a smile, although today that seems to be missing. You brought such light and laughter to our world. I know the last few years were hard for you, missing both your wife and eldest daughter. I hope you have a Merry Christmas reunited with them. Our hearts will be heavy this holiday. I will make sure that Aubrey always knows she is your Lizzie. I don't know that I will ever be able to eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day but I will try. I will teach that tradition to Aubrey, just one bite will do. We love you.

Our Anniversary

Today is our sixth Anniversary. By all of our activities today one might think it is actually Aubrey day. This morning we woke up at 7 am so that we could get ready for the parade. We lined up at 9 am and finished around 11 am. The only problem with the parade was the extreme heat. I have marched quite a few times in my life and never did I think that a Christmas parade would be as hot if not hotter than the Stow 4th of July Parade. The high today was around 83. If it had been a typical winter day it would have been nice b/c we usually don't have humidity in the winter. This year that is not the case. Halfway through the parade I ducked out to a food stand and bought drinks because we felt like we were going to die of dehydration. The upside to the parade was we got to see Shawn's Uncle Greg. He lives in a group home that participated in the parade. Aubrey also met her first horse. It was a nice surprise and everyone was happy to see each other. We then went to Millenia Mall to see Santa Claus. He really is the best in town even if he wasn't wearing his regular clothes. Aubrey told us he must only wear the red suit on Christmas. We did some shopping and then stopped by to see Bill and Eddie. We also met Wayne, a new friend of Bill and Eddie's. It was a great day. I am so exhausted now I think I may just go to bed.

Six Years Ago Tomorrow

This is what Shawn and I did six years ago tomorrow. Just like this year the weather was unseasonably warm. It was probably 80 degrees for the ceremony. The picture of the two of us is my favorite picture from the day. It was such a fantastic day with so many great memories. I love you, Shawn and I can't wait to see what the coming years have in store for us. We have a very busy day tomorrow and I probably will not be able to post.

Missing in Action

I have not been a good blogger. I have not posted in a week. Sorry to my family who looks here for Aubrey updates. Here is a list of what has been completed by us in my absence.
1. Cooked Thanksgiving dinner for my family. (Everything from scratch except the pie crust)
2. Black Friday Shopping. I was home by 9 am and had purchased all the items necessary for Happy kid and hubby come Christmas morning. I will still pick up a few things but have almost a whole month for that.
3. Finished Christmas Scarf 1. I have 4 to complete. I am 1/4 way through #2. I also started Baby Kyra's (Kira) Beautiful Blankie. I forgot to ask how to spell her name so I gave two spellings.
4. Baked some of Granny's pumpkin bread. Aubrey and Michaela make great helpers.
5. Bought tickets to go home to visit my parents. We will be there January 18 to 22nd. We are planning on having a Birthday Party for Aubs while in town so if anyone would like to go drop me an email and I will get you the details.
6. Grocery Shopping
7. Attended a Magic Game.
8. Washed all dirty clothes and folded most of the clean ones.
9. Put up Christmas lights.
10. Took Puppies to the vet. Reese is 5 1/2 lbs and Mocha is 5 lbs.
11. Made appointment for Christmas Pictures.

I have pictures of many of these adventures and will post them soon.

Kid's Day

Yesterday Shawn's Grandfather (Grampy Kans) had a party to honor his kids and grandkids. It was really fun. I have decided to make a list of what we learned yesterday.

1. Grampy was in the Army, Shawn's dad (Mr. B) was in the Air Force, Uncle Mickey was in the Navy.

2. Uncle Mickey fought in Vietnam.

3. Aunt Elizabeth and Aubrey Elizabeth's baby pictures look strikingly similar.

4. Aunt Elizabeth is fostering a Seeing Eye dog. The dog they have now is one of the breeders.

5. Aunt Elizabeth's grandson Sagan is almost exactly one month older than Aubrey.

6. Shawn has cousins living in California and North Carolina.

7. Shawn's cousin is a Red Sox Fan (much to Aubrey's delight)

8. Grampy has four children, 10 grandkids , and 15 great-grand children and two more on the way.

9. I get a new niece in March!!!!!!! (I actually learned this on Saturday)

10. The newest Barrieau Male will arrive somewhere around March 1. Congrats Mike and Lisa.

12. Uncle Greg thinks we are the "Greatest Family anyone ever had"

13. Grampy is quite the songwriter.

14. I am lucky to be a part of such a great family. Thank you all for being so welcoming. I love you all very much.

Random Misplaced Buckeye Ramblings

1. It is weird how even in Florida the Ohio State Game is all over the news.
2. I love how it doesn't matter if you went to Ohio State or not the mere fact that you are from the Buckeye State entitles you to cheer on the "home-town" team.
3. The same doesn't seem to hold true for the people from Michigan. (Shawn spent a good deal of his childhood living there and doesn't seem to care either way.)
4. The game this year is so huge it even overshadowed the Florida Classic in local news, also being played this weekend
5. The sight of a Michigan license plate made me want to roll down my window and scream at them "GO BUCKS!". I did not do this because I realized that the two big biker men riding the vehicles with said license plate were much bigger than I.
6. As I type this there are 2:38 left in the fourth quarter. OSU is winning.
7. DanniFritz if you read this please stay safe tonight.
8. 1:07 left Michigan 38 Ohio State 42.
9. My typing speed is slowing as I keep flipping back and forth blogger to espn
10. I am back and now doing a happy dance.
11. BUCKEYES WIN Good night all. I have a house that is not cleaning itself.

Why I love Target,

Once upon a time a love affair with Target was started. I thought it was just a phase but I am truly in love. I used to love that you could get almost anything you needed, except for groceries, in just one place. A few Christmases ago we bought a live tree, gifts, and parts of our Holiday outfits at Target. Then 3 Christmases ago I was introduced to a new kind of Target. The super variety. Super Target is now my favorite destination. It is my Disney World. Super Target has all the things as the regular Target with two major additions, Starbucks and groceries. I look forward to my shopping evening with Jennifer all week long. Coffee and Grown-up company, life doesn't get any better than that. Target has managed to take the mundane weekly task of grocery shopping and turned it into my social event of the week. Last week I was upset about the Christmas decorations starting to go up before the Halloween stuff was marked down. Yesterday, all was forgiven because the Starbucks menu had turned RED!!! To those who don't know Red is the color Starbucks has chosen to signify their Holiday drinks triumphant return. I can handle early Christmas decorations as long as they are coupled with Gingerbread lattes. Maybe my love letter to Target is fueled by the two Gingerbread lattes I have consumed. They are after all a limited time offering so I should get my fill.

Catch-Up

Here are my catch- up photos. The top two are from Halloween. The bottom one is what is left of the Gatorland entrance. It caught on fire yesterday and is looking kind of charred today. They are planning on reopening. I apologize for the poor quality of the picture but it was taken out of my passenger side window while driving by.

Here is my funny voting story. It is somehow always an adventure for me to vote down here. Last presidential election I was almost run over by a couple in Jazzy Scooters. Today I walked in and the first thing I heard was "Ola, Como esta?" I replied Good Morning. Many other thoughts were running through my head, I thought I handled myself quite well. Apparently I look like I should speak Spanish because this same scenario has happened many times since moving here.

Long Week

I have not been a good blogger this week. I will get better in the coming week I promise. I will also post pictures in the coming week. Here is a picture of my past few days:
Monday: Spent all evening running around looking for a stinkin' Pirate Jack beard. I was so desparate I thought of cutting some of my hair in the back to glue to my face. I did however find the perfect pair of pirate boots. (Love Target!)
Tuesday: Worked all day and then took Aubrey Trick or Treating with Michaela, Jenny, and Carly. Then off to Miss Kim's for the annual piece of fruit to conteract the impending sugar crash.
Wednesday: Target once again. We were running out of food.
Thursday: Sat on the couches wondering if Mocha had eaten something bad outside b/c she was looking a bit sad/skittish.
Friday: Worked and Orlando Magic Game for CC and Aubrey, Jenny, Michaela, and I had a sleepover.
Saturday: Took the girls to ballet, sat with Jenny at her yard sale, purchased a bike trailer for $5, took a nap, shopped, and then out to dinner. Once we returned home from our very busy day things started to go down hill. Mocha still seemed a bit off but started wheezing. Shawn and I were worried so we took her to the after hours vet (an incredible service BTW). Diagnosis: Pneumonia. They are keeping her until Monday giving her fluids, IV antibiotics, and nebulizer treatment. We finally got home around 3 am. Reese was so sad to not have her sister that she jumped the gates to look for her and then had to sleep with me b/c she was howling.
Sunday: Caught up on some sleep. Called the vet's for an update. Mocha is not coughing any more, is eating and drinking normally, and all signs point to her being on the mend. We will go pick her up tomorrow by 7 and they will let us know what we need to do next. I will keep you all posted.

Do you know what is Puerto Rico?

This is the question that came out of the back seat on Saturday. I answered yes, do you? Later at Jenny's house we had the following conversation:
Me: Aubrey tell Jenny what you said in the car.
Aubs: Do you know what is Puerto Rico?
Me: What do they speak in Puerto Rico?
Aubs: Spanish
Me: How do they say hello?
Aubs and Michaela: Ola
Me: How do they say "Let's Go"?
Aubs and Michaela: Vamanos (Thank you Dora)
Me: How do they say thank you?
Aubs and Michaela: Gracias (Aubs sounded more like glaslias)
Me: How do they count?
Aubs and Michaela: Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatro, Cinco, Seis, Ocho. (Aubs skipped Siete)

Man am I in trouble. To my readers who speak spanish sorry for butchering the spellings.

BEWARE!!!!!

THE DOODLE MONSTER is on the loose. From what I have been told he/she comes out in the middle of the night and draws on your pre-schoolers clothing. Here is an example of the monster's work.

P.S. Any tips for getting black ink out of denim?

All tuckered out

They have run themselves silly. They tend to run too fast on the tile and run into the cabinets. After about 15 minutes of that they crash.

It got caught...In Aubrey's teeth

While eating her fruit snacks Miss Aubs started to cry. I went over to see what happened and we had the following exchange:
Aubs: I was taking a bite of my fwoot snack and I got hurt
Me: Did you bite your cheek?
Aubs: No my finger
Me: Speechless, but laughing silently to the point of snorting.

Puppy update: Reese is 4.8 lbs and Mocha is 3.8 lbs. They had their first vet appointment today. They are also starting to be litter trained.

Nothing much.

I don't have much to report today but I thought I would post more pictures from the trip to the beach. Sometimes I fancy myself a photographer and like to take fun pictures of flowers. Really my camera has some fun settings and these were taken with the magnifying glass feature. I am not a horticulturist so if anyone could tell me what type of flower the yellow one is, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Puppy Update: Reese and Mocha are settling in nicely. Aubrey really loves them and they are great with her. I will post some new pictures in a few days but they are not really staying in one place long enough to get them.

Introducing...

Mocha and Reese Barrieau.

Mocha is on the left. (Shawn's favorite coffee drink)

Reese is on the right. I thought she looked like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

We were going to buy Reese this afternoon. Shawn felt a bit guilty about leaving her sister all alone so he wheeled and dealed us into two puppies. They are minature dobermans.

Things I inherited from my mother.

I would like to thank my mom for teaching me to do this. I was able to make a beatiful cake for Michaela's birthday. I may not have inherited the tall gene but I can decorate the heck out of a cake. This is for Michaela's birthday party. She is four. It should be fun.

And then something like this happens...

I must have also inherited the klutz gene.

I however am not the only one who had a cake incident.

Back From the Beach

Here we are at the beach. The other picture is the view out of our room. It was a beautiful weekend. The wedding was awesome, it was on Hyatt's private island. They took us out on boats. On the ride back we saw dolphins jumping in the bay. The hotel was gorgeous. We are trying to figure out when we can go for an extended stay. My beautiful dress was custom made for me by Mellie. I love it! Aubrey loved the pool and beach, but this morning only wanted to go shopping. I think yesterday sapped all of her energy and today she was much happier riding in the stroller.

And now for the funniest part of my weekend: While heading up to our room I realized I had forgotten my swimsuit cover-up. As I was verbalizing this thought a man in nothing more than a speedo got onto the elevator. I guess I was worrying about nothing.

Paraskevidekatriaphobia

So I have decided I should become a paraskevidekatriaphobic, at least as long as I live in Central Florida. My first inkling of this should have been when Hurricane Charley hit. That was August 13, 2004, a Friday. Now my birthday will occasionally fall on a Friday and they are usually some of my best. Today solidified the fact that I should adopt the above mentioned phobia. First most of the roads in downtown were closed for most of the day because one of the bank buildings was on fire. That in itself would make for an interesting day for our wonderful Orlando Fire Department but they weren't done there. Next at about 1:45 pm a single engine airplane made an emergency landing on I-4. Miraculously no one was hurt. The normally crazy drivers managed to pull over and stop so that the plane could land safely. Now as if this story wasn't crazy enough the pilot of the plane is one of our Gubernatorial Candidates. Mr. Linn has been in the news quite a bit this week. He first made waves earlier this week while alleging that another candidate is gay. He has already been quoted on the news stating "This was no publicity stunt". HMMMM. In reality should our governor be fixing the traffic problem not creating more?
Can you just imagine the dinner conversations this evening for our firemen?

Fuzzy Head

Today I am feeling a little fuzzy headed. This is the word I use to describe slight hangover. Yesterday was great fun. I had some amazing new foods and some delicious wine. I am not usually a wine drinker but I decided to try Riesling. It was fantastic. I also tried a Pomegranate Kir, I am not exactly sure what it was but C'est Magnifique. I have to describe it in French because that is the booth it came from. I had some other delicious drinks but if I describe them all I will seem like a raging alcoholic. The food was amazing this year and fueled by the afore mentioned drinks I tried Escargot. It was not bad, I kind of enjoyed them. I also had lamb chops in balsamic glaze, pot stickers, penne with eggplant and ricotta, chiliqueles, and a bunch of other things I cannot remember. Aubrey played along having cheddar cheese soup, maple glazed salmon, and two cups of ligonberry mousse. Scott, Teresa, Cassie and Rick joined us so the overeating and drinking became a family affair. Once again I send out the invitation to anyone who would like to join us come on down!!!!

Notifications and a picture

1. Aubrey would like to be called Elizabeth for the time being. (This phase may only last until tomorrow, I will keep you posted) You can disregard this notice. She has already changed her mind.
2. My Aunt Kim wrote a book. It is a book of her photography about the baloons in Santa Fe. She will be at the festival all week selling her book and taking new pictures. She is amazingly talented and I am very proud of her.
3. The Drunken Beerfest, oops. I mean Epcot Food and Wine Festival is here. We are going tomorrow. I am sure I will have tons of fun pics to post then if I can even see my computer when I get home. For those of you who have never been please consider this an invitation to come and visit during the month of October or early November and we will go together.
4. Mellie is making me an Uli Dress. I am so stinkin' excited. I will take lots of pics. We are going to a wedding on the beach next weekend and I thought it would be perfect. That and a Laura dress would be overly low cut for a family wedding.
5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELEN!!!!!!

This picture is a game of how many kids can you fit on an air mattress before it pops. You may notice my father sleeping across the bottom. That is because Brandon did not want to be the only boy.

Random Rambling

Mama M. made it through the Pastor Parish Committee and is now one step closer to becoming a local Pastor. WAY TO GO MOM!!
This has me thinking...
If you are an adult when your parent becomes a preacher are you still a PK?
Will my nephew be a PK's PK?

An anniversary of sorts.

According to TJ at work I am now an official Floridian. I have lived here for eight years (minus a six week hiatus). I thought to mark this date I would list some of the very interesting things that have happened since moving to this wonderful state.

1. The 2000 elections. That was fun let me tell you. I realized I lived in the state that was now the laughing stock of the entire country and possibly the world.
2. Three hurricanes in six weeks. The first was an adventure and according to everyone I know we wouldn't get another for at least 20 years. Boy, were they wrong.
3. Key Lime Pie was named the state pie. This may seem like a great thing, however Key Limes are no longer grown in Florida (see #2, this fun fact courtesy of Jamie and Bobby Deen)
4. Three and a half more theme parks were added to our landscape. Apparently the first 6 1/2 weren't enough of a draw for the tourists. Cypress Gardens is the 1/2, it didn't start off as a thrill type park but closed and reopened with coasters.

I have a lot to learn as a Floridian but here is what I know:
Orange Groves smell fantastic, too bad they are all being replaced by houses. Aunt Robin is fantastic at making the scent even more realistic.
Red ants are not cute. They call them fire for a reason.
Gator does not taste like chicken but is pretty tasty.
A returning space shuttle has it's own very special sound effects.
A night time shuttle launch is hands down the coolest thing I have ever seen, if all goes well I will have some pictures of one to post in December.
Soap bubbles can be made to look like snow but the 90 degree heat kind of ruins the effect.
You haven't lived until you have gone gator spotting in a speed boat. By lived I mean felt you heart nearly jump out of your mouth when you notice that there is nothing between you and the gator and these ones do not have their mouths taped shut.

In two weeks I will attend my first beachside/Island wedding. Then I will really feel like a true Florida girl.

Back to Blogging

I seem to have forgotten to blog this week. To my one or two readers I am very sorry.
The reason Jesus brings turtles to church is because Mrs. S. brought one for children's story to show how God provides you with the things you need. The shell for protection and stuff like that. Aubrey obviously missed that part of the lesson.
My Children's Story involves an M&M. When I was about seven the theme had something to do with the M&M. Each child was given a piece of candy and told not to eat it in church. By church they meant the sanctuary. Being the obedient child I was, I did not eat my M&M. Not when we left the santuary, not in the narthex, and definitely not in Children's Church. About halfway through the class the teacher noticed I had something in my hand. She asked me what it was and I told her. I was promptly sent to the bathroom to wash my hands. Who knew one little piece of chocolate candy could make such a mess. They do in fact melt in your hands, it takes quite a while but they do melt.
Here is a random thought: When I worked at SeaWorld they would talk about having a park walking championship. It always seemed like fun. Next weekend I will be participating in a Park Walk. The local breast cancer walk is at the Animal Kingdom. Jenny, Kim, and I will be walking. If anyone local wants to come please let me know.

Child Like Faith

What is it about going to the church you grew up in that is so special? Today I was sitting in the church in Stow and asking myself that very question. My heart swelled with pride when Aubrey went up to Children's Story and then to Children's church. The memories there are so vivid I can touch them. That is the place where I first started my journey with God, where I was confirmed, and where my daughter was Christened.
Yesterday I wandered around the empty church looking at the rooms and smiling to myself. I was sad to discover they had painted over the bricks in the Senior High Room. There were bricks there for people who had already gone home to God, much sooner than they should have. That church will always hold one of my saddest memories. That is where I saw Patrick for the last time. I said good-bye to him standing in the kitchen. Quite the appropriate place for those of you who knew him. That kid was always eating. Even with all that this I sat in church today and thought that place would be worth moving home for. Maybe it is seeing faces I haven't seen who are happy to see me when I am there. I feel such love in that place. I can't wait to go there for Christmas services this year. God willing Jack will be preaching and Aubrey can see a true miracle. I am afraid that I will not be able to find a church here that can become that for my Aubs.
A small side note: Did you know that Jesus brings turtles to church? Tomorrow I will tell the rest of the story with a Children's Church mix-up from my childhood.

Discovery

I have discovered a new problem with living in Florida. I am going to visit the fam in Ohio this weekend and was packing this evening. I have put away my winter clothes and cannot remember where I put them. I shouldn't need them for at least another month if not two. However it is 60 degrees up there, and I have to pack warmer clothing that my usual tank tops and jeans.
My other problem is that my entire closet is filled with sandles. I finally found two pairs of closed toe non-sneaker shoes. Hopefully Ohio doesn't get a warm front this weekend or I will sweat. Although long sleeves are now for any temperature under 72 so I should be ok.
I will leave you with a pic of Aubrey from Disney this weekend. Sorry about the red eye i will fix it later. Aubrey was finally tall enough to ride the mountain. She said that it was her favorite part of the day b/c she got to go wooooo.

MIA

I have been a bad blogger this week. It has been kind of busy. Uncle Bob and Jody are visiting from Ohio. We spent some extra time with them. Since they were in town for a couple of days I got behind on my daily housework tasks and had to run twice as much laundry yesterday.

Aubrey and I spookified (my own word) the house yesterday. I even found candles shaped like bones (I love Target). Our house now has a fun Halloween vibe. I know it is a bit early but we will be visiting Nanny and Papa next week, followed by a birthday party, next is the Food and wine festival, then a wedding, and finally another birthday party. By the time we get another weekend it will be halloween and too late to decorate.

I also had another proud mama moment yesterday. Aubrey helped make her very first pot of spaghetti. This may not seem like a big deal but her helping makes her the fourth generation to prepare the recipe.

Today it is off to Magic Kingdom. Aubrey may or may not get her hair cut on Main Street. She is going back and forth a bit so we may wait a few more weeks until she is sure. I don't think she realizes that once she does, it will take a few months to grow back to where it is now.

Shaken and Pensive.

Yesterday, I felt an Earthquake not a sonic boom type but a real live earthquake. It happened in the Gulf of Mexico. They said on the news that at the center it was 6.0. Here it just felt a bit wobbly. I was sitting in a barstool height chair and felt like I was swaying back and forth, kind of like the sensation you get in a tall building on a windy day.
Today I am not sure how I feel. I read Charissa's Blog and I have to say I am glad I am not the only one not quite ready to face my feelings on the matter. I have cried, yelled ,blamed, and just about every other emotion possible. I know I feel annoyed. Annoyance at the fact that people cannot just remember what happened today and honor the memory of the people who lost their lives and those who walked into uncertainty to try to save whoever they could. The media and others choose to turn it into a blame game and a "What have you done since" game. I think that they have done that every day since but I feel today should be reserved as a day of rememberance. I remember my panic from that day. It seemed to be compounded by the fact that I new at least ten people flying on airplanes. My family was lucky. My Grandpa Tom's nephew stopped to get a cup of coffee on his way into work, thankfully he was running late that Tuesday morning. Hundreds of those stories have circulated since that day, I still cry when I read them. I cry everytime I see a commercial for one of the movies or specials they have made. I have not been able to watch any of them. I wonder if I will ever be able to watch them. Most days I am incredibly proud of my brother and his goal of becoming a fireman but today I am terrified. God be with us all today as we reflect upon and honor the heroes and losses of that horrific day.

Busy Saturday

Yesterday was a busy day. We were gone almost all day. Aubrey had ballet in the morning so we went there and then to see the puppies. There is a new store next to the dance school so I take her to look at them afterwards. Then we went and saw the Cowan Family. Aubrey hadn't seen Michaela is about three weeks so we squeezed them into our day. They are some of our best friends and Aubrey missed them terribly. When I say squeezed in I am not at all exaggerating, we got there and I told Jen we are yours until noon but then we have to be on our way. The girls had a great time and we even got to watch the shuttle launch. From there we had lunch and then came home and got ready for a party. Shawn's cousin Mark and Dawn are getting married in October and they had a couple's shower yesterday. It was great to see all of Shawn's side of the family. I realized that I see my cousins in Ohio more often than we see the Barrieaus. It is now my goal to work on this. I am posting some of the pictures from yesterday.

Dishwasher Epiphany

We have lived in our house since 2000. For the past six years I have cursed the diswasher for having less than exemplary cleansing abilities. Finally in a fit of rage this weekend I asked Shawn for the wire cutters.
"Wire cutters?" he responds.
"Yes, wire cutters. I need them to cut away the dishwasher rack that keeps the soap dispenser from opening." (Something I had gotten around by switching to the Electrasol Tablets)
This got him out of his chair to investigate my dilemma.
While looking at the bottom tray we realized that cutting the rack would rust out the bottom of the diswasher. I also complained about how it kept getting stuck after running. Then we noticed the stick thing in the middle didn't line up. Curious, isn't it? After closer examination we realized the back of the rack didn't have the bar I wanted to cut. Could it be? Had we figured out why our dishwasher has never worked properly? Yup. The darned thing was in backwards. This was confirmed in the Clean Sweep part 2 when I found the owners manual. It clearly states "Bumpers toward the door". GRRRRRR. That is what we get for assuming the builders put everything together properly.

Crikey!

Did anyone else see the news? The Crocodile Hunter passed away. The cause of death was a sting ray barb to the heart. Hmm.

Yesterday was Aubrey's first Creative Dance class. I have posted the pictures in reverse order so you can scroll down and see them in order. Some of them are a bit blurry because they are taken through a window with the flash off. Enjoy.

What is wrong with this picture?

At first glance it may just look like a container with half eaten strawberries and a few whole ones thrown in. The problem with this is I found it in the refrigerator. My daughter had a snack of berries this morning. She put the container with half eaten berries back. Hmm. I just don't know what to say.

Time for some comfort food.

We ate up most of our afternoon with a nice nap. Aubs had been wound up all day and it was time to calm her down. She has discovered my teddy bear from when I was a child and has been carrying it around non stop for two days. The bear also had to take a nap with us. I am supposed to be cooking dinner now. I have decided that homeade mac and cheese should hit the spot. There is now a steady rain over us and the trees are swaying gracefully in the wind.

Downgraded to Tropical Depression Boredom

Aubrey is getting into the boredom game as well. What you are seeing here is her throne. I was in my bedroom looking for something and heard "Mommy come look, I am the QUEEN". Well I knew it could not be good and came out to find her sitting on a chair on top of a rubbermaid bin.

Brought to you by the Letters T and S

I am suffering from a severe case of Tropical Storm Boredom. In two hours the wind should pick up a bit and we should start seeing a good deal of rain. For now it is just gray. This is the worst part for me. I call this game "Hurry Up and Hurricane". For Hurricane Frances we played this game for a day and a half because it stalled just off shore. In order to combat my boredom I will post some pictures. This is what happens when you let your three year old dress herself. At least the colors match and the shoes are on the correct feet.

Barrieau Clean Sweep -1/2

While we were making good progress at cleaning the garage, TS Ernesto was making other plans for us. This evening we filled the newly organized garage with anything light enough for a wind gust to move. We really had the best of intentions, at least I didn't just go shopping in bulk. We are ready. I have water, tuna, and enough batteries for 50 people. Tonight I will charge the phones and camera. If the power sticks with us I will try to give updates via blog so that my 2 readers can experience "TS Ernesto LIVE: via the internet!!".
I have decided if any of the signs for political candidates who were so careless to leave them out while under a tropical storm warning end up in my yard or damaging my property, I will start a one woman campaign against them. I will let everyone know how they cannot possibly worry about their constituents if they would leave projectiles with spikes lying around Central Florida. One may not think that a good gust of wind can pick up these cleverly designed metal spikes with a sail but I remind my family members that Hurricane Charley's weak outer bands flung mud and grass at my home.
I have to keep referring to my previous hurricane post for the rule about coffee. I sure think I could use some but as you have probably noticed I am quite wound up.
I have been checking out OrlandoSentinal.com throughout the day and must go soon to check again. Here is one bit of info that amazes me: NASA had started to crawl the shuttle back to the Assembly Building but apparently half way there decided to put it back out on the Launch Pad. Shawn figures that must have cost about a billion dollars. I don't know the details b/c of course I just saw the headline. Have a great night. I may be back as sleep doesn't come easy on nights like this.

Hurricane Schmurricane

I was listening to the Monsters In The Morning on Real Radio the other day and one of the guys said that the perfect name for a hurricane would be Schmurricane. That way instead of being extremely depressed every time they tell us that Hurricane _____ is heading right for the Metro Orlando area we can laugh histerically because they have to say Hurricane Schmurricane. At the time I thought it was completely random and kind of stupid. I have now changed my mind. If I hear Ernesto one more time today I may just shoot someone, but if I heard them say Schmurricane my rage would surely be replaced by laughter.
This particular morning show is my favorite guilty pleasure. I have no idea why I love them so but I do. Aubrey does also. They are not exactly kid friendly and I keep forgetting that small fact. They have Monster Songs of the Week. The first time Aubs sang along I thought it was cute. It was something about a cup of ham and cheese. The second time was a bit more embarassing. The host of the show's favorite word is Bad Ass. In order to make fun of him the wrote a Monster song in that has bad ass as about every other word. It is a catchy little tune. So catchy in fact that after hearing it my sweet and innocent little girl climbed out of the car at Target and sang at the top of her voice "IT'S SO BAD ASS!!!". Hmm. I must remember that Ipod. If anyone outside of Florida is interested this show plays on XM Extreme.

The Barrieaus Play Clean Sweep... Part 1

I have not stopped moving since I woke up this morning. I am tired. Here is what we have done so far today:
-Cleaned and organized the garage (family)
-Cleaned and organized the back bedroom (family)
-Cleaned my bathroom (Missy)
-Organized the linen closet (Missy)
-Assembled the Bowflex (Shawn)
-Flushed the Air Conditioner (Shawn)
-Laundry (Missy)
-Made a pot of chili

Now you can see why we are tired. Finding a place for the Bowflex was like the old Sesame Street episode with Ernie trying to find a new home for Bert's paper clip collection. We have decided on the back room. In order to fit it in the back room we had to put the bed in the garage. To put the bed in the garage we had to organize that and get rid of the old air conditioner. (An unamed person wanted it so we have housed it for them for over a year. They have not picked it up so it is now being removed.) While cleaning the garage we noticed that the last couple days rain had once again blocked up the drainage hose so Shawn had to flush the line. I organized the linen closet because I felt guilty that Shawn was still working. Now the house smells great and next weekend we can complete the Clean Sweep. I need to join PRA. Pack Rats Anonymous. My name is Missy and I am a pack rat. I married a pack rat. This was confirmed today. I was really good today. I actually threw away something I had held on to from High School. Freshman year to be exact. And I got rid of a drawer full of greeting cards. I don't know why I have saved them but today I let them go. It was liberating. Now if I can do the same for my bedroom closet next week I will be well on my way to recovery.

Great News and Reality TV Depression

First the great news Rev. Yeager is off the ventilator!!!!! My mom said that he smiled and flashed the OK sign. Thank you all for your prayers. It sounds like he still has a fight ahead so please keep remembering him.

Now my reality TV depression. Robert Best got sent home last night on Project Runway. He was one of my favorites. I do really like Uli, Michael, and Kayne though so I still have some people to cheer for. I will also make sure that Robert doesn't starve. My collectibles catalogue came yesterday and I will probably purchase some of his designs in the 11 1/2" size. Work Out also had their season finale this week. I got sucked in one night after Runway and have watched all of them since. It has a neat concept and since I like it I am guessing it will not come back.

Soccer Mom Moment

Today I signed Aubs up for dance class. I asked her if she wanted to tumble or dance. She said "I want to be a bawwawwina" Dance it is. When you register your child you get a sign for your car. The yellow plastic caution sign looking thingy on a suction cup. Awesome. Her little friend Jackie will be taking classes with her. Her mom just bought the ultimate soccer mom vehicle. Now she has the appropriate embellishments for said vehicle. I cried when I told my mom, I have no idea why being the mommy of a ballerina caused this reaction but it did. Maybe it is because this is the one vision of what a mommy does for her little girl that my daughter hasn't already smashed. This was reinforced today when instead of reaching for the princess crown like her friends she asked for the rock star hair. Whenever anyone would comment on her hair she would raise her hand in the rock star pose and scream "ROCK ON". My camera ran out of batteries so here is a picture from the Bibbidi Boutique when she was given the hair.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

This is Aubrey dressed as Captain Jack Spawwow. Aubrey and Shawn put on a show for me today. Really they played pirate and made me watch.

This is what happpens when your daughter dresses you as a pirate. The blue bucket is for getting water out of the boat.
This is the real reason we bought the Bowflex.

Best Job Ever with Flashback Friday Picture

I have the best job ever. It is not the one that I drive to everyday. It is the one I come home and have. Tonight as I sat at my computer the doorbell rang. I said "Who is it?" (I already knew who) and my response was "It's Aubrey". She came inside and gave me a hug and then we danced around the living room. It is the simple things that make life worth living. This is our first family picture. It was taken 3 1/2 years ago.

Slow Moving Tuesday About Town

Today I will once again bring up the subject of our wonderful roads. I have become very familiar with every leaf, blad of grass, and crack in the asphault on all of my ways to or from work. There are really two main ways but with small variations. School has started again for Central Florida students. What this really means is a 45-50 minute morning commute stretches to almost 1 1/2 hours. The evening commute does the same. This is the other world Walt has created, Slow Moving Traffic Land. Our area is growing so ridiculously fast the poor little roads just can't keep up. They are in the midst of widening projects for all of them. While this will bring some much needed relief it currently just adds to the traffic. I deal with the drive for a couple of reasons.
1. We got a great deal on my wonderful home
2. It is close to my husbands family (our yards are almost touching)
3. I have a big beautiful yard, these are a rare commodity in todays new developments
4. I love my cute little house. I am not sure why I insist on calling it little, it has 4 stinkin bedrooms.

Nice Quiet Evening...

Tonight we had what some might call the most boring family night ever, and I loved every second. We came home from work to a package for Aubs. It contained a beautiful dress from her GG. I will post pictures soon of her wearing the beautiful dress. Then we wrote a Thank You card to send to GG. Aubrey wrote it all by herself. Real words and everything. I wrote the words out for her on a separate piece of paper and she copied them into the card, it is even legible this time. While we wrote Shawn mowed the lawn and trimmed the CRAZY OAK. Then we had blueberry pancakes with Cool Whip. Now we are going to settle in and watch an "Aubrey Show". We have three categories of shows in our house Mommy, Daddy, and Aubrey. I hope that all my friends had as amazing of an evening as we had.

Once again grounded from the grill...

It was inevitable. I am not allowed to grill. Now I was not told outright "Do not touch the grill" but I did have a husband behind me going "Are you sure you don't want me to do that?". He had a very good reason for doing that. If you leave the grill for too long to heat up so that it is as Rachael Ray says "SCREAMIN' HOT", it will in fact turn so Screamin' Hot it is on fire. Oh well. It is too hot out there anyway to stand in front of the grill.

Also, my mom is leaving updates on Rev. Yeager on the original post so if you want to know how he is doing please check there.

OOPS and a fun pic

I was thinking last night that our last trip to Disney was actually two weeks ago. No wonder last week seemed so long, I was thinking of two weeks in one. Sorry.
Now for an explanation of the picture. We were at Epcot yesterday and we took the girls on the rides they were tall enough to ride. Basically the very, very slow moving sometimes turning types and boats. The girls however had a fantastic time and are still talking about the rides. As you exit Journey to Imagination they have some demonstrations and other things to encourage your imagination. Kodak sponsors the ride so they have quite a few Kodak camera demos. There is one with a giant camera (think Honey, I Shrunk the Kids) and a Dr. Albright. She pulls a kid out of the crowd to be her lab assistant. Yesterday she thought Aubs was fun and chose her. This may have something to do with Aubrey walking up to her and asking "Can you take my picture?', and then yelling to her that Finnent (Figment) was messing with her pictures. Anyway it was very cute and I got tons of pictures of the girl in her costume. The one above is the demo pic from Kodak.

I have been on Blogcation

I know it is not a word but I have not posted in quite a few days so I made up the appropriate word. It has been a long week. According to Charissa's Blog this seems to be going around much like the cold I have been fighting since Tuesday.
On Sunday we said good-bye to Alex. He will be in Texas with his father for the next few months. Aubrey and I will really miss him. He is a great kid and we are lucky to have him as a part of our family, no matter how expanded it has become. The picture is of the kids on the Tea Cups at Disney. It was Aubs first spin, which explains the sideways appearance.
On Tuesday I caught Aubs mutant cold virus and have been miserable ever since. My saving grace was that I actually made it to the gym before the cold hit full blast.
On Wednesday I just felt sorry for myself because not only was I sick but my arms hurt from the gym.
Thursday was not bad and I tweaked my Power Point for my CE.
Friday was actually a good day for a couple of reasons. First I gave my presentation with no shaking, crying, or feelings of vomiting. Second I found a cold pill that allows me to breathe through my nose. Third I did not have to get up the next day.
Today will be a good day. We are off to WDW to see Shawn in Fife and Drum, we are bringing Aubs BFF Michaela, and then having a sleepover.
